K1100 handlebar modification
To stiffen up the handlebar mount, and also raise it up for a more comfortable position, I removed the rubber isolators and put a large nut and flat washer on the handlebar clamp (see photo below). This prevents it from going very far into the hole in the triple-clamp, thus raising the bars. A smaller washer was added to the underside, to allow the bolt to be tightened.
I was concerned that there would be too much vibration transmitted, but this was not the case.
I then drilled a second hole in the plastic clamp cover, as shown below, to lower the cover by the same amount that the handlebars were raised.
